Palm Print Pants

Hello, everyone!

In an effort to mix up my wardrobe and not wear solid colors all the time, I decided to embrace printed trousers this summer. Being a bit of a girly girl, I do like floral prints, but I find that I can be pretty particular about which ones I’ll wear. So many of them remind me of clothes I wore as a kid in the 80s and early 90s (please let all pictures of me from age 10 to 14 disappear), and my husband’s reaction to most (OK …  all) floral prints is something along the lines of “Yikes!”

An alternative to a floral print that I love is the leaf or palm print. I had been thinking about buying some palm print pants and found these pants on sale at Zara about a month ago. I love the color combo (most shades of green don’t work on me), and mixing the pants with a basic black top worked great. I think flats would work with this outfit too (maybe my black d’orsay flats), but I opted to go with these great black heeled sandals.

If I’m being completely honest, I wore this outfit because I wanted to carry my new purse. I went shopping with some of my fabulous girlfriends over the weekend and saw this beauty at the Kate Spade outlet. I love the quilting, and the strap can be worn two ways. Fabulous! It was a bit of a splurge for me, but I know this will be a bag that I keep for a long time. It’s so classic and chic.

Oh, and my husband didn’t like these pants either. When he saw me wearing them, he said, “Been hangin’ in the jungle today?” Oh well! I still love these pants (and my hubby). :)

Blue and White Maxi Dress

Hello, everyone!

It’s still summer for almost a month (and it’s still warm here), so I insist on continuing to wear summer clothes. I found this great maxi dress at Old Navy over the summer and have worn it several times. My office is pretty casual, so I even wore it to work once this summer with a cardigan to cover my shoulders (and to keep warm because my office feels like the freakin’ Arctic). The dress is really comfortable, and I love the combination of blue and white. An added perk is that it irons really easily. That may not sound like a big deal, but I am not a fan of ironing, so I get pretty psyched when I find something that is low maintenance in that regard. Score!

Because I’m nearly 5’7″, I had to wear flat sandals with this rather than heels. The dress ended up looking way too short with heels, but I think it would be cute with some sort of heeled sandal if the dress were longer.

I was trying to do something different with my hair for the next few posts, so I rather than drying it straight or curling it, I left it wavy, which is what it does naturally (well, naturally with a bit of help from some hair products and a hair dryer with a diffuser), and pulled it back into a ponytail. I’ve been wearing my hair like this a lot this summer because it’s cooler than leaving it down. It also takes so long – at least 30 minutes – to dry my hair straight whereas it takes about 10 minutes to dry it a bit and leave it wavy, so you can guess what I do most often during the summer.
