Things I’m Loving: October 2015

Hello, everyone!

Here’s this month’s edition of some things I’m loving. I’m in the process of trying to sell and replace some old furniture and buy some things I actually like, so I thought I’d include the dining room pieces I just bought (on sale!!!). The table is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. Yay!

Bauble Bar Slim Bar Pendant

I’ve worn this necklace several times on the blog, and it continues to stay in heavy rotation. I love how minimalist it is, so it’s a great piece to throw on if you want to wear jewelry but aren’t really in the mood for a huge statement necklace. The chain is a bit short, so I sometimes use a necklace extender when I want it to be longer.

West Elm Crest Bentwood Chair and Mid-century Expandable Dining Table

I’m still loving mid-century modern furniture and have been eyeing this table for months. I sold our Ikea dining set a few weeks ago on Craigslist and immediately bought this table. It took me a few days (okay …. two weeks) to pick out the chairs, but I finally decided on these. I love the sleek shape and think they’ll look great with the table. I can’t wait to have people over for dinner soon!

Lou & Grey Signaturesoft Cowl Tunic

Because I work from home a few days a week (BEST. THING. EVER.), I wear a lot of loungewear when I’m home. I recently saw this tunic when I was browsing through the Lou & Greg collection at LOFT and fell in love with it. It is incredibly soft and cozy, so it’s been perfect the past few weeks as the temperature has been dropping. The fit is loose, but I prefer loungewear to be roomy. I’m seriously considering buying it in blue also.

Trend Spotting: Turtlenecks

Hello, everyone!

It’s getting cooler here, and sweater weather is upon us! While I don’t really like the cold very much, I do like cozy clothes, and turtlenecks fall squarely into that category. Some people don’t like turtleneck sweaters, but I’ve always loved them, and I feel like I’ve been seeing them everywhere lately. I’m currently looking for a form-fitting ivory or oatmeal turtleneck to wear with my flare jeans and a poncho I bought a few weeks ago for another fun ’70s-inspired look.

Below is a roundup of a variety of turtleneck pieces. The Everlane one (tan one toward the bottom) is cashmere!

Trend Spotting: Capes and Ponchos

Hello, everyone!

For this post, I wanted to talk about capes. Not the “I’m Supergirl, and here’s my cape” type of cape, but the capes/ponchos that have been in so many stores lately. While I love the idea of basically wearing a blanket and pretending that it’s an actual piece of clothing, whenever I’ve tried on a cape/poncho, I’ve found that the wrapping myself in feet of fabric looks pretty overwhelming on my frame. Sure, I could throw on a belt, but I wonder if I’d end up looking like I’m wearing a belted blanket rather than just a blanket. I like this trend on other people, but whenever I’ve tried it myself, I end up feeling a bit ridiculous. I have not yet given up though! I just ordered one I saw last month, and it will definitely appear on the blog if I decide that I can make it work.

What do you think of the cape/poncho trend? I’ve included a few capes below that I like in theory in case this is a trend you’re crazy about.

(And why do so many superheros have capes anyway?)
