I bought this dress during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and was so excited when it arrived in the mail. I love the lace overlay with the nude slip underneath and really liked this particular lace. When I tried it on, however, I knew it wasn’t a dress I was going to keep. The fit looks good, but the dress is actually really uncomfortable. The entire dress rode up with every step I took, and I had to keep tugging the slip and the lace overlay down. It was so annoying and impractical! I have suffered for fashion at moments in the past (many, many pairs of stilettos come to mind), but I wasn’t willing to do it for this dress. I knew I’d never wear it, so I returned it. If all fitted lace dresses are like this one, I might have to skip this trend.

I am obsessed with the Self-Portrait brand. It’s been around since only 2013, but it already has some A-list fans, including the lovely Rachel McAdams. So many of the styles are a great combination of feminine and edgy. Some of my favorite dresses are below, and I especially love the red one (of course). The price range of these dresses is more than I’m willing to pay though, so I’ll have to admire these pieces from my computer screen.

I tend to wear a lot of solid colors. I’ve ventured into patterns over the years as my style has developed, but my inclination is to grab a solid top and solid skirt or pants. If you find yourself doing the same thing and want to edge your way toward a more varied wardrobe, finding tops that have some texture is a great option. This black lace top is a perfect example. Yes, it’s a solid color, but the lace adds some great visual interest to the outfit. The top would look great with jeans too if you want an outfit that’s feminine without being flashy.
